Governor Madla?

For today and today only:

Democratic State Sen. Frank Madla will be inaugurated as Texas' governor for a day at 11 a.m. today at the Capitol.

The District 19 senator was elected president pro tempore of the Texas Senate last year, which means he takes over if Gov. Rick Perry and Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst both leave the state.

Both will be out of the state on separate personal trips.

The inauguration and the reception following is open to the public.

Madla's office refused to talk about his plans for the day at the mansion, but previous temporary governors have used the ceremonial occasion to barbecue, bring in favorite bands and talk a little politics.

Whoa, whoa, whoa Madla refusing to comment to the news media on something? That's absurd!

Honestly if I was a State Senator like Madla, well, 1) I wouldn't have lost touch with my district the way Madla did. But 2), I'd bring in the Girls Gone Wild guy and have him throw the Girls Gone Wild Games II at the Governor's Mansion.

Ah well, maybe he can raise a little money off of it so he can continue to live the vida loca over the next six years. I really, really hope one of our Austin bloggers gets to go to the ceremony and reception and ask him some questions. I would pay some good money to see that.
