UTSA reassigns Coach Carter

The guy who took the Roadrunners to two of their three NCAA tournaments gets reassigned:

The University of Texas at San Antonio Athletics Director Lynn Hickey announced today that head men's basketball coach Tim Carter will be reassigned within the university effective immediately.

“We appreciate what Tim has done during the last 11 years,” Hickey said. “Tim and his staff members have always represented UTSA with class and professionalism. Those efforts will not be forgotten. This was an extremely difficult decision. We have high aspirations for our program and after a lot of deliberation, I feel it is time for a change in leadership.”

Hickey will begin a national search for a new head coach.

Carter posted a 160-152 (.513) record in 11 seasons as head coach of the Roadrunners and owns a 171-168 (.504) career record.

Carter's program never really lived up to it's potential. Especially in a conference that is seen as one of the three worst D-Is in the country. A sticking point in whether or not UTSA will ever move from a 'Bus Conference' to a mid-major conference is whether or not they can dominate the Southland Conference. That didn't happen and wasn't going to happen underneath Carter.

It'll be interesting to see who gets brought in next.
