Local Notes

First article of the year about the County Commissioner Pct. 2 race between five-term incumbent Paul Elizondo and former City Councilman Enrique Barrera. Really, it's about blah vs. blah-lite. I'm very happy I don't get to move into this precinct until after the March primary. Actually, I'd probably end up voting for Barrera. In an institution like Commissioner's Court, I'll take change versus more of the same any day.

The Express-News also covers Chris Bell's two campaign stops in San Antonio this weekend. The first had a litany of Bexar County elected officials giving him their endorsement in front of the Alamo. The second had Bell showing up at the San Antonio Toll Party's rally on Saturday. Bell garnered six endorsements on Friday, although two of those were already publicized on his website, and then got to speak in front of over 200 people at the anti-toll rally.

There's a real chance over on the North Side of San Antonio to cut into these heavily Republican areas if they can tie Perry, Corte, etc to these toll roads. With the sort of broad-based support that was seen at this rally. The anger is there, just simmering below the surface. Hopefully it happens.

All in all, a good weekend for Bell in San Antonio.
