City of San Antonio Passes 2006 Budget

$1.72 billion dollars... geezus, that's alot of money. But I guess that's the cost of running the 8th largest city in the US. The budget definitely emphasized basic services, an 18 percent increase in the street maintenance fund, adding more police officers for the first time in about a decade, replacing thirteen aging firetrucks and adding three more EMS units. In addition, it looks like Mayor Hardberger also got his way with increases in parks funding and maintenance and a doubling of Project Quest funding.

The Mayor calls it the best budget the city has ever had (that's political hyperbole for the uninitiated), and while that may be an exaggeration, it's a pretty good budget.

... Yeah, so... that's about it.
