Texas and Women's Suffrage

As Pink Dome reminded us on Friday, August 26 marks the 85th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th amendment. And while we may be in the midst of the Great Republican slide to the 19th century right now, it's interesting to remember that Texas was one of the first states in the Union, and the first state of the Old Confederacy to ratify the 19th amendment. As Left In The West reports, other Southern states didn't ratify for a good, forty more years, while- surprise!- Mississippi didn't ratify until 1984.
