Schiavo case in turmoil

Schiavo's Feeding Tube Can Be Removed, Judge Orders

The Terri Schiavo case is in the midst of some very crazy (and eye-opening) happenings.

Early this morning, Pinellas Circuit Court Judge David Demers ordered her feeding tube to be kept in place past 1 pm (EST) deadline so that another Pinellas Circuit Court Judge- George Greer- could consider the issue before him. 30 minutes ago, Judge Greer ordered the removal of Ms. Schiavo's feeding tube, effectively rejecting Congressional requests to keep her alive. Earlier today, Republican Congressional leaders issued subpeonas for Schiavo to appear before a hearing. Judge Greer refused their requests to keep her alive through the hearing.

It continues to amaze me how invested the Republican party is to right-to-lifers, and how far they are willing to go to please this group. Anytime it seems that they have lost a battle, they just pick up the phone again and get someone further up the government to swoop in and help them make one last-ditch effort to keep Terri Schiavo alive.

The State Legislature, Jeb Bush, Congress, George W. Bush. Don't these guys have anything better to do?
Social Security?
Deficit Reduction?
Medicare?

Thank God for the level-headed Florida State Senate and Judge Greer.
